About meI've loved words for as long as I can remember. Whether it was devouring Sweet Valley High books in junior high or discovering my love for diagramming sentences (yes, really!) in high school, I just knew that when I grew up, my career would have to involve language. And what do you know? I was right.
Besides language, I'm also a big fan of yoga, dogs (especially my own... but also just all dogs, ever), pop culture (you do NOT want to go up against me at trivia nights), music and art, traveling, reruns on Netflix, the wild frontiers of the internet, fall and winter and all the basic-girl things that come with them, and coffeecoffeecoffeecoffeeCOFFEE. Education |
In 2006, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with an emphasis in Language & Linguistics from Hastings College here in Nebraska. At the time, I was one of only three grammar nerds on campus enrolled in the Language & Linguistics program, working toward the dream of making a living out of commas. Improbably, I also have a Studio Art minor, which meant I got to try glassblowing, ceramics, graphic design, drawing, and 2D/3D art, with a little art history thrown in for good measure. I regret nothing.

Career |
From 2006 to 2012, I worked in the editorial department at Sandhills Publishing, first as a copy editor for all of its computing publications and then as a content editor specifically for the now-defunct Processor magazine. As a copy editor, I corrected grammar and syntax and edited for style; as a content editor, I was able to make more meaty edits to improve readability and structure.
In April 2012, I joined the team at Ervin & Smith Advertising & PR in Omaha, first as a proofreader and then as a copywriter for a variety of national clients. My years as a copywriter proved to be incredibly fulfilling, exciting, and at times, really really hard. I loved every minute. In May 2016, I made the decision to transition into a Content Management position at Nebraska Children and Families Foundation, a Lincoln-based nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities and providing families and children the resources and support they need to thrive. In this position, I've mastered the art of communicating complex concepts to the general public, all on a shoestring budget. I love it here. I've also been fortunate to work on a variety of fulfilling freelancing projects in the past few years, and I welcome opportunities to do more of that in my free time!
